This Beach Keeps Winning World’s Best Beach Awards
There are plenty of stunning beaches in the world, but Turks and Caicos’ Grace Bay Beach consistently tops the awards.
Grace Bay Beach
Grace Bay Beach is on the island of Providenciales, in the Caribbean’s Turks and Caicos Islands. Called Provo for short, it’s the country’s third largest island and most popular for tourism.
Grace Bay Beach is pretty much what dreams are made of — its powdery white sands stretch for 7.5 miles and its turquoise waters are clear and calm. It topped TripAdvisor’s 2022 Travelers’ Choice Awards as the world’s best beach, as it has for many other award programs.
Protected by a barrier reef a mile offshore as well as by Turks and Caicos’ ecological measures (it’s part of Princess Alexandria National Park), Grace Bay Beach’s waters are clear and calm. They’re ideal for children learning how to swim, horseback riding along the shore, for all types of water sports, and — especially — for simply floating and enjoying the spectacular views.
Not sure if you should trust decades’ worth of awards? Plan a trip to Turks and Caicos to see for yourself just how gorgeous Grace Bay Beach is!
Where to stay on Grace Bay Beach
You have your choice of several all-inclusive hotels, villas, small inns, and vacation rentals in Turks and Caicos. Club Med Turquoise was the first and is perhaps the most famous of Grace Bay’s hotels. It’s an adults-only all-inclusive that’s been recently renovated, including the addition of a new pool. Club Med makes it easy to enjoy Grace Bay, even underwater through their scuba diving program — perhaps you’ll see Grace Bay’s resident bottlenose dolphins and turtles.
Right next door is Ocean Club Resorts east property and, a short walk through Grace Bay’s gentle waves and powder-like sand, Ocean Club West. At Ocean Club Resorts, you stay at one property but can enjoy the facilities at both (there’s a free shuttle if you don’t feel like walking). Accommodations are in independently-owned condo suites with kitchens and laundry; both properties have lush gardens and one or two pools. A highlight of Ocean Club Resorts is their restaurants, including the oceanfront Solana and elegant Opus which has Provo’s largest wine list.
A top choice for an all-inclusive experience for families is Beaches Turks and Caicos. The Grace Bay Beach resort boasts a 45,000-square-foot waterpark, 17 restaurants, ten pools, and tons of activities. Both kids and their parents will love the ice cream and mac & cheese food trucks, the sushi bar, pizzeria, creperie, and multitude of other dining options (as well as Beaches’ care with adapting their menus to accommodate food allergies).
Another option is Grace Bay Resorts, a collection of private villas and hotel resorts. Grace Bay Club was Turks and Caicos’ first luxury all-suite resort — it has one of the largest beachfronts in the country and all its rooms and suites face Grace Bay itself. Point Grace is a 28-key luxury boutique property also on Grace Bay with the feel of a tiny village of cottages. West Bay Club is aimed at families but also sets aside some spaces, including a serene pool, for couples. Rock House is Grace Bay Resorts’ newest — it opens spring 2022 on Provo’s north coast with 46 studios, suites, and villas.
